Still life paintings from centuries ago are often full of them: flowers and fruit. The classic paintings are a feast for the eyes with the meticulously painted grapes and exotic flower petals. This work by Eva Räder is much more crudely painted, but if you look through the brushstrokes, you can tell the leaves, stems and fruit pieces apart. The big difference from realistically painted still lifes are the bright, deep colours of this painting. The red and yellow paint could be a sunflower or a daisy. Or it represents a juicy nectarine. This is quite a change from the dark, sombre still lifes of yesteryear.
